Odpovědi pro thenextweb - ČPÚ - engliš - pls help
Hi both,
Hope you don't mind me getting in touch. I had a few questions about the lawsuit announced last week.
How could the outcome affect people in your country and beyond? Could this set a precedent for similar groups across the world to follow?
What is your desired outcome? Do you know how much it might cost you to fight the prosecution?
What do you say to copyright owners who see piracy as something that affects their income?
Does piracy negatively affect the quality of content?
Answers asap this morning would be great!

čus. něco jsme vypotili v kooperaci se Zdeňkem. Jestli to je OK, tak prosím o revizi.
How could the outcome affect people in your country and beyond? Could this set a precedent for similar groups across the world to follow?
I believe that people who consume online content will start to care more about the very fundamental issue that is being questioned here. First of all - we will have much wider reach to send our message. Political party being sued by authorities - this sole fact attracts media attention and the public will listen. Those constantly repeating the "mantra" about illegal activities on the internet are ignoring its nature. We have to tell to all potential audiences how copyright is affecting the online environment and how the preservation of the obsolete business model by some media corporations is not suitable for the 21st inter-connected century. Linking any content could not be called crime. Safe harbor is another term to be explained and we will address it in the campaign too.
Regarding your questions we can consider short-term effect: we will get super PR, which is extremely important especially this and next year - we have several elections (local, national) coming up here in the Czech republic, and any means of raising the awareness comes in handy. Especially in the area, which is associated mostly with Pirate party. And long-term effect: we will have to probably pay some money, be it the sentence (and i believe it will not) or only lawyer fees. People will also have to look elsewhere for their favourite shows and movies. Fortunately, everybody's got lots of options nowadays - for those who prefer fully legal ways, Netflix opened recently in the Czech republic, we got also several online videotheques. And for the others... we still got the good old Piratebay, KAT, Demonoid... and others. You name it. We have to repeat all the time. Providing onine entertainment was never the only goal of our activities in this area, neither was discovering optional business model for the moviemakers. The main goal was, is and always will be to show that the new world can not be measured by the old rules. Pirates understand that and people have to understand it too.

What is your desired outcome? Do you know how much it might cost you to fight the prosecution?
The desired outcome is evident: the court confirms, that embedding and hyperlinks are not a crime. However, the copyright owners are pretty strong. May the force leave them! And about the costs: we hope that the lawyer will be nice to us:-) It will cost us, that is for sure, but this is one of the reasons why we exist, so the money will be well spent.
What do you say to copyright owners who see piracy as something that affects their income?
Of course it does affect their income - in a positive way. In 2015, Worldwide box office surpassed USD 38 billion and was up 9% compared to 2014. In the Czech Republic, 13 million people came to cinema last year (total population is 10 million, so people actually visit repeatedly), which is 1,4 million more than in 2014. Cinemas grossed 1,6 billion CZK (approx. 64 million dollars), which is also a record. Simply said: more and more people go to cinema each year and spend more money there. We are actually teaching people to consume the content, so the filmmakers should thank us, not sue us.
Does piracy negatively affect the quality of content?
I have to laugh at this question. The answer is clear: no, it does not. The most pirated TV show "Game of thrones" is one of the best quality shows ever. People put the low quality content because they want to save money and maximize the potential benefits, not because of piracy. Low cost of technology enables shooting movies virtually to anyone - that is the reason why the web is full of crap. But the good things always find the way up.

Za me mega supr obsah.Ivan.Bartos píše:čus. něco jsme vypotili v kooperaci se Zdeňkem. Jestli to je OK, tak prosím o revizi.

Souhlas s úpravami, jen ještě ke dvěma OT:
Souhlas, místo "could not" se tam hodí spíš "cannot".
Souhlas, místo "could not" se tam hodí spíš "cannot".
"May the force be without them" je nesmysl. Samozřejmě je to narážka na "ať tě provází síla" z Hvězdných válek, takže tam musí být něco ve smyslu "ať je opustí síla." "May the force leave them" funguje; "may the force be without them" rozhodně ne.Tomas.Vymazal píše:I believe that people who consume online content will start to care more about the very fundamental issue that is being questioned here.
